Program Overview
In the practice of internal Daoist alchemy, the process of obtaining internal elixirs holds paramount importance. This process, as well as the use of elixirs, fundamentally involves the transformation of one quality of energy into another.

The variety of elixirs used and produced in internal Daoist alchemy is extensive, and understanding the properties and purposes of each elixir (Nei Dan, 內丹 — internal elixir, cinnabar, etc.) is crucial. Since practices can be of two types — static and dynamic — the objectives for energy transformation also differ. For dynamic, movement-based practices, it is essential to understand the nature of the crystalline-transformative magical elixir of the Nine Vessels (Jiu Ding Shen Dan).

The quest for the Golden Pill is heavily dependent on the capacity of consciousness. While cinnabar can be obtained with unprepared consciousness, it cannot be placed into the alchemical fire, and thus mercury cannot be extracted, nor impurities purified. This highlights the necessity of combining alchemical work with the creation of elixirs.

A key aspect of internal alchemy is that using the elixir simultaneously involves its absorption and achieving internal transformation. This process makes the adept's body lighter, initially liberating it from gravity at the level of essence. Allegorically, this is understood as the "ability to see oneself from atop Mount Kunlun" or "sail toward the Island of Penglai." Practically, it means mastering transformations in the crucible, the ability to convert cinnabar into gold (light).

The most challenging aspect is creating the space for alchemical work, symbolized by orpiment (Ci Huang), a fundamental centralized lattice. Often compared to jade for its viscosity and internal cohesion, orpiment itself is considered both an elixir and a condition for processing elixirs. Similarly, realgar (Xiong Huang), a basic crystalline substance, can cluster under the influence of mental force or sheng-jing energy, contributing to the formation of the Dantian center.

Through orpiment and realgar, the alchemical solvent (vinegar) and plasticity (copper) are formed. From the former, cinnabar is obtained through purification (sulfur), and from the latter, gold is created.

Therefore, understanding the process of forming and absorbing elixirs is of utmost importance in alchemical work.
